Hi from Mexico

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I just wanted to check in and say hi from sunny Mexico. Unfortunately, I have very little internet down here (and no access to Instagram! = devastation) so I'm just saying hi quickly before I get cut off again. I'll be back next week with photos and more blogs to check out. I miss my little space here. Hope you're all doing well.

Miss you

I'm missing Ireland something awful recently. I haven't been back in a while, and I've been looking back through some of my old photos to recapture the feeling of wonder I have every time I'm there. Going to Ireland for me quickly becomes all about visiting family and friends and I sometimes forget that it's also an incredibly beautiful country where the light is always perfect and the vistas have the power to blow me away. The sky is so changeable - one moment the green and blue will overwhelm, and the next the grey skies descend and the clouds feel inches away from your face.

In an effort to miss it a little less, I gathered a few of my shots from the last time I was there (it's been a few years, and I feel awful about that). Please excuse my soft shots - I didn't have my Nikon a few years ago.

I have to go back soon. I can't stop thinking about that perfect light.

One last hurrah

The East Meadow looking all glorious on Sunday
Did I tell you yet that we're off to Mexico in two weeks for a week of bliss by the ocean? Ted arranged the whole thing and I couldn't be more excited. We're jetting off to Cabo to celebrate his birthday in a gorgeous private house overlooking the ocean. I hope you'll join me on instagram (@dervlakelly) for the trip cause you know I'll burn your eyes out with images. So I can't really mourn the end of summer yet while I've got one last warm weather hurrah coming.

interior design

I'm totally impressed by the cabinet makeover by Centsational Girl.

And while we're on the dresser/cabinet kick, here's a great IKEA hack by Emily Clark. She made a plain white IKEA dresser totally sparkle with some gold paint and spray.

There's a new column at SF Girl by Bay on Victoria's top 10 favorite online stores. For her first column, she's tackling the kitchen and has links to a few of my own favorites, but some others that are new to me.

food

Eva at Adventures in Cooking ALWAYS has the best pie flavor combos. I'm adding her salted rose and honey pie to my list for holiday baking. Or maybe for this weekend's baking?

Jeanine and Jack of Love & Lemons are in Japan at the moment, and they're inspiring me to try a Japanese breakfast. Yummy warm, eggy rice goodness in a bowl.

fashion/style

Maybe I'll invest in a chunky cable knit sweater and pair it with white jeans as Erin Gates suggests?

And Heather of Habitually Chic has helpfully created a roundup of the best fisherman's sweaters out there. I really want the Madewell one.

hard to define

Song of the moment: Summertime Sadness by the ever talented Lana Del Ray. It's on constant repeat in my iTunes.

The iPhone 5S was finally announced. I think the gold version would go well with that all white outfit I mentioned above. Even though one of my sisters has already told me that the gold is "tacky". Well Genevieve, I don't care!

I'm super excited for and proud of my Fall 13 books. See photo below. The authors (and the subject matter) ranges from Brooklyn to the Hamptons, to California, to Maine and back. I also think they made a really attractive stack when put together.

Titles from top to bottom: 66 Square Feet by Marie Viljoen, Bountiful by Diane Cu and Todd Porter, Farmhouse Modern by Terry John Woods, and Luminous Interiors by Brian J. McCarthy.

Refreshed

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

We had an incredible weekend thanks to some generous friends. We spent it lounging by a hotel pool on a two day getaway just 20 minutes outside of the city. Well, there wasn't much lounging, that's hard to do with a four year old who can barely swim and an almost two year old (ack! where did the time go?) who just wants to sprint around the pool deck. Nevertheless, I feel refreshed and ready to tackle this week/month/season. I hope you are too.

food

I'm totally intrigued by the idea of yogurt with cucumber, mint, olive oil, and salt on Ramshackle Glam.

I tell myself at the beginning of every summer (or at least the past two summers) that I'm going to get an ice cream maker but here we are at the end, and I didn't get one. BUT, if I did, then i'd be making this honey-thyme & blackberry-goat cheese swirl ice cream from Carey at Reclaiming Provincial.

Let's usher in the new season with these apple cakes with lavender and honey from Michael at Verses from my Kitchen.

fashion/style

I didn't think of myself as a leather pants wearing girl, but this post by Sarah at A House in the Hills is making me rethink that. Perfect autumn outfit, perhaps?

I always appreciate Garance Dore's honesty and transparency and the fact that she's willing to discuss issues that others won't. This revealing post on girl talk has me looking forward to her book.

Looking for autumn shoes? Check out this boot roundup by Say Yes to Hoboken.

Amy Moss at Eat Drink Chic has put together a totally cute clutch roundup. I'm totally coveting the apple Kate Spade purse.

You know, one of the main reasons I started this blog was to see my favorite blogs and bloggers in one place. So I couldn't be more excited about the lifestyle venture started by Erin of Design for Mankind and other friends: check out the newly launched (today!) Clementine Daily. I think I'll be spending a lot of time there.

Thanks to Miss Moss for the introduction to this new travel blog run by the talented Pauline.

Um, has any pregnant lady ever been cuter than Emily Henderson? I don't think so. She gives a 6 month update here and after I got over how cute she looks in her maternity clothes, I started looking behind her at her gorgeously laid out apartment.

Back with more links soon! Have a wonderful week.
