On the first day of Spring (and I heart San Francisco, part II)

Thursday, March 20, 2014

So, where were we? Ah yes, the rest of San Francisco. So we left off at Dolores Park, hanging out at what felt like a giant frat party. On Sunday, we walked over to Pacific Heights and Russian Hill to explore those neighborhoods. Mostly I was obsessed with the house colors and styles. I haven't seen anything like that since living in Ireland.

And then we made our way to the painted ladies at Alamo Square Park ...

I loved watching other people taking photos of the homes. And then, on to Noe Valley. Clearly I'm in love with colorful houses.

It's the first day of Spring. And it's my two year blog anniversary! I could bust out a bunch of cliches about growth, and change, and opportunity, but I won't. But seriously - there is a lot of change and growth going on in my world. And I can't wait to tell you all about them.

I heart San Francisco (part I)

Friday, March 14, 2014

We spent 48 hours in San Francisco last weekend. It was a whirlwind of a trip, but enough time for me to appreciate the way the western light cascades down the streets, the way time stands still when you sip that perfect almond milk latte, the way the streets hum with pride when the cable cars rumble by.

We stayed on a shockingly high floor in a gorgeous hotel. I live on the 25th floor in New York City, so I thought I was used to heights. But the view from the 40th floor was something to behold.

On Saturday morning we walked down to Fisherman's Wharf to check out the huge farmers market - and gaze at the Bay Bridge in the early morning light.

Then we walked up to Coit Tower and down again through the city to Lombard Street.

Then after a walk through Russian Hill and Pacific Heights, we made our way back around to Dolores Park and took in this party scene.

I didn't realize I took so many photos. That was the result of 9
hours of walking on Saturday. I'm going to have to show you Sunday's shots (including the painted ladies)in the next post. What an amazing city, right?

The New Boho Book

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Sometimes, as a book editor, the earth, moon, and stars align and you get an author that you feel a close connection with AND a project that feels tailor-made for you. Justina Blakeney is someone I was personally inspired by long before I was lucky enough to acquire her book. Her posts on bohemian style and homes always left me happy and excited to drape my home in riotous color and plants of all sizes.

But, often when I work with an author or photographer who lives on the other side of the country, I never get to meet them in person (sadly). Justina was in town from LA for a book photo shoot last Friday, and we got to hang out.  And let me tell you, she's twice as lovely in real life as she already is online! Above, the book's photographer, Dabito, shot us clowning around in Tribeca after we wrapped an apartment shoot on Friday. Justina's book is coming out for Spring 2015 - I can't wait for you to see it!

  • Follow Justina's instagram feed: @justinablakeney to see more behind-the-scenes shots for The New Boho Book!
  • Check out Dabito's post about the NYC shoot on his site, Old Brand New.

I'd love to talk more about the work I do, and the adventures I get up to as a book editor. A new goal for March, perhaps?
