Interior design:

Giveaway from Design Mom for a $50 gift card to Pop and Lolli, the super cute wall decal company. Three lucky people could win this.

I'm working on not one but two farmhouse books at the moment so I'm loving this modern farmhouse in Missouri featured on Remodelista today.

Fashion/style:

Cute giveaway from the always charming Bleubird Vintage for $100 to spend at Lime Ricki Swimwear. Just in time for summer!

Cup of Jo's Thursday giveaway is a good one: a $200 gift certificate to 20 Best Twenty, a website that gathers twenty pieces from independent shops every month. Just head to their website, pick out a few things, and then tell Joanna what you like best to be entered to win.

Food:

I'm not sure why, but we're cooking a lot of orzo in my household lately. Maybe because it feels like the pasta version of rice and has a bit more texture to it. Anyway, I want to match my orzo with this recipe from Annie today for white fish with greek flavorings. I love the idea of cooking in neat foil packets. It makes the clean up so much easier.

Mmmm, falafel. Check out the recipe for a falafel wrap with mint and cucumber yogurt on Veggie Mama today.

This isn't a recipe really, merely an invitation to travel over to La Tartine Gourmande to drool over her recap of her food and photography styling workshop in France this past May. I only wish I could have actually been there, but these sumptuous photos will have to do for now.

'Till tomorrow friends.

Elephant garlic

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I'm finding it very difficult to make it to work at a decent hour. You see, I've brought this on myself by exiting the subway at Union Square. I get transfixed by the sights and smells of the farmers market and end up buying so much rhubarb, corn, tomatoes, and berries that I'm begging the farmers to take a credit card so I can get more. But on Tuesdays and Thursdays I sail across the empty square and only have to dodge the Greenpeace or Children's International volunteers.

Food:

I'm sure we're all in the mood with something refreshing to drink, especially when in this heat I only have the appetite for salads or tomato slices tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Check out the  recipes for Agua Fresca made two ways on A Beautiful Mess: with watermelon and mint OR cantaloupe and thyme. Delicious pairings of fruit and herbs.

Sometimes a recipe name just grabs you - today Heidi of 101 Cookbooks posted the lyrical-sounding Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter recipe. Always nice to have something more exciting than plain butter on my morning toast.

I think scallops are our favorite thing to cook on a Sunday evening. The recipe from Sweet Paul isn't really anything different from what I already make (except for the addition of the dill), but it's nice to have it written down.

Fashion/style:

Finding clothing for my little ones is hard, hard because I find myself shopping at the same two or three brands constantly and never reaching beyond. I love this post by Oh, Joy on her subscription to a super cute monthly kids clothing club, Wittlebee. You pay $40 a month, give your pattern and color preferences and get a box full of selections from different and emerging designers. Might have to try this out (plus you get a package each month!).

Interior design:

Giveaway from I Heart Organizing to win two $50 gift certificates for some new hardware for your home. I could use some drawer pulls for sure.

See you all tomorrow :)

Sometimes that sunset is all you need to make you fall in love with where you live all over again.
Food:

The always lovely Luisa at The Wednesday Chef had her beautiful baby boy, Hugo! Head on over to read her story and gaze at the photo of that charming little boy.

Spoon Fork Bacon posts an easy and doable recipe for Shrimp Shu Mai. I think I have wonton wrappers in my fridge that are begging for some use.

Fashion/style:

There is a big June giveaway at A Beautiful Mess. You could win a camera bag, sunglasses, jewelry, a photography class, and tons of gift cards to some awesome Etsy shops. You just have to pick your favorite item to win.

Dying over this Marrakech post by Kelly at The Glamourai. Not just because of the amazing clothing and styling (although the model's lips are a little distracting), but I love this new cinemagraph photography style where certain aspects of the images are moving in the photos (like the model's dress is blowing in the breeze but the rest of the image is still).

Ok I'm not in my 20s anymore but I still found this advice on The Everygirl quite relevant. My personal style is an evolving project (to put it nicely) and the 21 essential fashion items that every girl needs would have been (and will be) valuable to me.

Interior design:

It's well documented that I have a bedding addiction. So I loved this patterned sheet roundup from Bonnie at Going Home to Roost today. I'm totally pinning these sheets for my autumn bedding.

See you tomorrow!

Hello, lover. I discovered this public pool on 77th and York on Sunday ... it was being cleaned at the time and I plan on being first in line when it opens :)

Fashion/style:

Have you guys checked out the Philipp Plein campaign featuring Ed Westwick and Sabrina Nait? Super sexy! You can watch a video about it here. I found this via Garance Dore's lovely interview with Ed. (Also, thanks sis for the link!)

Giveaway on Sincerely, Kinsey from a group of her sponsors. You could win a beautiful necklace, a vintage sundress, a leather bracelet, or even ad space on Bubby & Bean and Sincerely, Kinsey!

Giveaway for a Petunia Pickle Bottom handbag (worth $325) at Bakerella.

Food:

Another perfect recipe for summertime. See this delicious looking Gazpacho with Garlic Cream on Manger today.

Head on over to Roost to congratulate Coco on her upcoming cookbook! I for one will be first in line to buy it. Oh, and there's a recipe for raspberry almond cake.

Interior design:

The Design Sponge newspaper is out! I'll be picking up a copy next time I'm in Anthropologie (which, if I'm being honest, will probably be tomorrow). See a preview here.

I wasn't too late for the restocking of Heidi of 101 Cookbooks Quitokeeto sale today. I got the Petite Picardie glasses (which are already sold out). Sign up for the newsletter so you don't miss it like I did the first time.

Giveaway at Young House Love for a lightweight Oreck vacuum cleaner (or a hoover, as we call it in my house). We sorely need a new one.

See you all tomorrow!

Memories

Friday, June 22, 2012

I think most American children have memories of growing up picking blueberries or strawberries - the vivid blues and reds are fairly appropriate colors for this country. But in Ireland we grew up picking mossy green gooseberries and inky blackberries from gardens and hedgerows. So when I saw gooseberries at the farmers market this morning, the sight transported me back to my grandparents garden in Midleton, Co Cork, to afternoons spent picking the hairy little globes and eating them until the sides of my jaw ached with the sourness. Sometimes I feel so very far away from home but it's incredible how the sight and taste of one tiny little fruit can bring it all so close again. If I close my eyes I'm back in that garden, watching my grandfather's hands, gnarled like the apple trees growing nearby, expertly pick gooseberries. Then we'd gather eggs from the chickens and wander back down to the main house as the sun set around us. My grandfather is gone now, and his house has left our family but I wonder if those gooseberries and apples still grow wild in the garden and whether they have survived to delight another generation.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Curator Picks - 6/22

Just a few posts of note today. That's it. All the bloggers on the east coast are probably too hot to write. I'm stuck to my couch as I type this.

Fashion/style:

Kelly of The Glamourai always looks chic, so I trust her opinions when it comes to shoes. She just introduced me to Sole Society, a daily fashion shoe site, and I must confess I've already bought a pair that she recommended! While you're there check out her interesting piece on wearing a work uniform of sorts.

Interior design:

Giveaway of a gorgeous set of Vero Linens from Habitually Chic today. These are an amazing quality and would be divine on your bed. Choose from white, ivory, or beige and leave a comment on Habitually Chic to win.

Food:

Click over to Annie's Eats to enter to win Alice Currah's cookbook.

Cool down this weekend with Smitten Kitchen's Cold Rice Noodles with Peanut Lime Chicken.

And finally some yummy looking Peach Cobbler Scones via Joy the Baker (for those of you who can actually turn your oven on).

Have a lovely weekend! Here are some shots from my week.

Curator Picks - 6/21

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Phew, it's another hot one. I don't have energy for more words than that. So, without further ado, onto to the best posts today:

Fashion/style:

Giveaway on Cup of Jo today for a gorgeous Alexis Russell black-and-white diamond cuff (worth $345!). Also Cup of Jo was just named one of the top 100 sites for women by Forbes, congratulations Joanna!

I love the idea of biking to a park, picnic basket in tow, packed to the brim with pretty napkins, lemonade, and some perfect desserts to nibble on, but when it comes down to it I can't get out the door on time, my bike has turned into a stroller, the children are crying, and my water bottle has leaked out all over the bread and cheese. Still, I continue to hope and aspire to the type of picnic posted on Design Sponge today. Also, hello, canned champagne???!! AWESOME.

Amazing giveaway at Hostess with the Mostess today for, get this, a Canon EOS Rebel T3, a cake pops roller, a Kelly Moore camera bag, a cake pop stand, and a cake pop starter kit! Everything you'd need to make the cake pops and then photograph them to perfection. I want to win this one :) Head over here to enter. You have to "like" quite a few companies on Facebook but I think it's worth it!

Food:

Loving this Chocolate and Cherry Pudding recipe by Nikole Herriott on Oh Joy! today. I caught sight of some cherries at the farmers market in Union Square this week. Perfect timing.

Interior design:

We live in an apartment in Manhattan, so a twin bed wasn't really an option for our toddler when she was ready to leave the crib. But I did love this roundup of 15 cute twin beds for children on Apartment Therapy today.

Looking for some vintage children's books from your childhood? Then you'll have to check out what Miss James of Bleubird Vintage found on Etsy. (I know quite a few adults who'd love this -- I personally love reading YA scifi and fantasy and find it to be some of the best writing out there). If you want to buy something on the OopsieeDaisies Etsy site, make sure you enter the Bleubird reader discount (SALE15) to get 15% off their books and clothing.

See you tomorrow!

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Well blisteringly hot it is. Appropriate that today is the first day of summer. I think the soles of my shoes melted into the pavement as I scurried from one shady part of the block to another.

Food:

I don't want to turn on my oven for very much time (if at all) today, and I doubt you do either, so this Tomato and Polenta Pie from Fig & Fauna would be perfect.

Mmmmm is all I have to say about this Ricotta Cinnamon and Sugar Danish from Adrianna over at A Cozy Kitchen.

This is an older post from Apartment Therapy's The Kitchn, but I'm totally buying some extra mason jars and putting steel cut oats in them as a great breakfast option during the week. I'm guilty of the easy pastry grab downstairs at our local cafe every morning. This way I can put together 5 jars of oatmeal at the beginning of the week and take one to work every day. Drizzled with some honey and sprinkled with hazelnuts this would be a delicious and healthier option.

Fashion/style:

Summer sandal roundup from Anne at City Sage (who is celebrating her last issue as executive editor of Rue). I'd go for these Matt Bernson two tone strappy ones.

Interior design:

Giveaway from I Heart Organizing for a cool shelf organizing gadget (that holds up to 40 cans of food!) from Shelf Reliance. Just think of how far that would go in a tiny kitchen!

I've walked past this sculpture a thousand times but I loved the juxtaposition of this guy gazing out from Union Square Park this morning. Bet he never thought he'd be gazing at skyscrapers from horseback for all of eternity.

It's going to be boiling hot here in the city tomorrow. I anticipate a rough wait on the subway platform tomorrow morning and will probably be rushing from air conditioned building to air conditioned building in order to spend the least amount of time outside. It's a pity really, hot days in the city don't feel nearly as good as they would if I were by the beach or on some cool mountaintop. We spend all winter wishing for summertime and then when it's here we complain about the heat.

Fashion/style:

Giveaway on A Beautiful Mess for a $100 gift certificate to shop at Ruche. Check out their lookbook, pick your favorite outfit and then leave a comment at A Beautiful Mess to participate.

I'll be first in line to buy clothing from Joy's new collaboration with Winter Water Factory. Check the adorable baby dresses and rompers here. Also while you're over at her site, enter to win a cute tote bag from Ellington Handbags and a striped scarf from A-Thread.

Need something to tide you over until the next season of Downton Abbey starts? Then enter this giveaway at Miss Moss for a beautiful heirloom silk scarf from Kelsey Garrity-Riley. Just sign up for their newsletter and then leave a comment on the Miss Moss site to enter.

Love this tip from Apartment Therapy about keeping an "I look great" folder of photographs. My folder will be pretty small but at least I could quickly access those few photographs of me that look good should I need them for anything!

Next issue of Rue is live!

Interior design:

Want to win some art for your home? Travel over to Stephmodo to enter this giveaway for an original piece of art that Linda Donohue created just for this giveaway!

If you're looking for 3 things you can do in living room to give it a totally fresh look, then check out this post on Decor8 today. She lists 3 small things you can do that will spruce up your living room.

If you're like me, then you're drooling over the Kelly Wearstler sale at One Kings Lane! It ends on 6/21 so hurry up.

No food posts today, I'll be back tomorrow with some of those. Night!

Monday, June 18, 2012

You know, I was just thinking. If I didn't tell you all about these giveaways then there would be more of a chance that I could win.

Hmmmm.

But I can't keep all these fun giveaways from you :)

I'm just too nice.

Interior design:

Erin at House of Turquoise loves all things, well, turquoise. Today she has an awesome Kenneth James wallpaper giveaway from Brewster Home Fashions. Just head over to House of Turquoise and leave a comment about your favorite wallpaper (find the choices here). and you could win not just one or two rolls, but an entire room wallpapered in your choice!

Food:

Oh I really didn't want to tell you about this giveaway. I thought to myself: "I could win Cuisinart ice cream maker all for myself."  But maybe, just maybe, if I share this with you then I'll get some good karma and win it myself. See how I did that? Made you think I was all unselfish?

Summer is a time for seafood (sustainable responsible seafood that is). And summer is definitely the time for this Aioli and Seafood Delight recipe from Manger. Use any white fish of your choice to create this flavorful dish.

In another fishy turn the always amazing Tartelette has a recipe up today for (gluten-free) Tuna Nicoise Sandwiches & Portuguese white gazpacho.

Fashion/style:

Click over to The Daybook to win a $50 gift certificate to cute and socially responsible clothing store, The Impeccable Pig.

And lastly, I wanted to show you this cute little sound amplifier that I got in C Wonder last night. It amplifies everything from what I'm playing on Pandora to a phone call on speaker. It's a simple little silicone shell so it does it all without batteries or draining power. Cute, right?

I put on my new skinny black jeans this morning, paired them with a neon orange top, and I bounced out the door. I was hoping my happy clothes would bring me luck at work. Alas, not so. It was a long, stressful week, full of highs and lows.

But that's just sometimes how it goes.

And that was not supposed to rhyme.

Oh well, it's Friday, and I certainly can't complain about that. And this weekend we are not only celebrating father's day but 7 years of marriage with the man I love.

Only two posts today because all i want to do is eat salty food and drink so here you go:

My mom makes homemade pickles with a recipe from Darina Allen's Ballymaloe cookbook and they are just the right mix of sweet and tart and perfect for sandwiches. But I don't have that recipe on hand so I bet this recipe for pickling everything from cucumbers to carrots over at A Beautiful Mess would be tasty also.

I want a mint julep, and I want a mint julep ice pop made with watermelon! These ones are not for the kiddos if you catch my drift.

Enjoy the weekend. Let's all come back on Monday refreshed and ready to begin again.

Fashion/style:

Lovely giveaway from Sweet Paul today for $100 towards a purchase at Poppy Tree Frames. You have until Monday to enter.

Sweet lingerie giveaway at Cup of Jo from Eberjoy - a company that really makes the most beautiful pieces. You could win the Butterfly Valley Chemise. Leave a comment on Cup of Jo to win.

The Herriott Grace film is up! It makes me want to call my dad.

Love these polka dot etched glasses over at A Beautiful Mess.

Interior design:

I find buying a rug for a room to be the hardest piece of the puzzle. Probably because all of the other furniture is already placed and I have to come up with something magnificent on the floor that ties it all together. But what if I took Sue from The Zhush's advice and started with the rug instead? I think that would be so much easier!

Food:

I'm pining this Cherry Fruit Tart (gluten-free) at Le Tartine Gourmande and Bea hasn't even provided the recipe yet! I'll let you know when she posts the recipe. But for now, bask in the glory of her photography.

Have a wonderful night! Tomorrow is Friday and I couldn't be more thankful for that.

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Food:
It's been muggy muggy muggy here in the city and my hair is taking a turn for the worse. This Fig and Cucumber Salad from Fig and Fauna would cool me right down (though I doubt it would do much for my hair).

Another great recipe to make during these summer months would be this Grilled Pineapple Guacamole from Annie's Eats.

Shauna Ahern of Gluten-Free Girl recently took a family trip to Tuscany to teach a week long cooking class. I was following along live as she posted on Instagram but just case you weren't you should check out her gorgeous photographs and recap here. She's working to make it a twice yearly event with Jovial Foods ... I'm dreaming of being an attendee one year.

Unless strawberries are past their prime, I prefer to eat them raw. But if you need to use up some ultra ripe strawberries then check out this insanely gorgeous Strawberry, Pistachio, & Brown Butter Tart from Aran at Cannelle et Vanille.

Fashion/style:
Wednesday giveaway from Cup of Jo is for a pair of beautiful flame earrings from the online store One of a Kind. Leave a comment here to win. Also, while you're at Cup of Jo, check out her surprising tip for enjoying some time alone when traveling with a partner.

Hop on over to Sincerely, Kinsey for a really cool giveaway for a three month subscription to Umba Box! Umba Box is this great site that sends you a handmade gift every month - from jewelry to soaps to cute home accessories.

Erin at Apartment 34 has a giveaway of a lovely Lo & Sons carry on bag for all of your summer travels. She recently had a destination wedding in Mexico and provides a lovely packing guide for lounging poolside.

Interior design:
Well I was an hour or two too late to purchase anything from the Quitokeeto pop up shop of one-of-a-kind home goods put together by Heidi of 101 Cookbooks. Most of the items on the site sold out in the blink of an eye today. Hopefully Heidi will curate a new collection and put it up again soon! You can input your email address on the site so you'll be among the first to know when the shop is open again.

I liked this post today by Stephanie at Stephmodo about buying art for your home. So many people think you have to have a giant budget and that's just not the case. A carefully curated collection just contains anything you love. As Stephanie says, "art is to be judged not by its price tag but by how it makes you feel". I've got this rather dramatic Remington painting hanging in my office at work and I love how wildly different it is from my city lifestyle. It's probably not a painting I could afford to have in my real home life (nor would I choose to - it is a bit morbid). At home our art is a bit more modern and bright.

Interior design:

It's all about Morocco over at Remodelista today and they feature some really cute modern Moroccan tea glasses as well as some ornate cabinet and drawer pulls that have that North African flair but are really made in upstate New York!

Fashion/style:

Giveaway at Bleubird for a $99 voucher to get a pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses at the cute glasses shop Bonlook. You just have to tell Bleubird which pair you like to be entered to win.

I'm currently in the hunt for cute summer flats so I was thrilled to see this roundup from Oh Joy! today on her four favorite pairs of summer shoes. So cute!

Food:

Ummm, wooh, do you read Manger? Please do. Mimi Thorisson has lived all over the world and has now settled in Medoc, France with her young children, husband, and 14 dogs (yep, that's right, 14). She has a gorgeous recipe for pork filet mignon with apricot and prunes today.

Broccoil and cheese? Yes please. I'm not sure if Smitten Kitchen's take on this classic is any healthier, but I'm not sure I care. Check out her recipe for broccoli parmesan fritters today.

It's not that hot outside today, but I could still go for these icy Honey Lavender Granitas posted on Spoon Fork Bacon.

Gardening:

I'm so excited by all the urban gardening I'm seeing lately. Especially on the city rooftops. I just read about this massive 200,000 square foot rooftop farm being constructed in the Bronx. I'm looking forward to the next time I'm flying home to NYC and I look down and see green starting to dominate the rooftops.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Do you any of you watch the Fox show So You Think You Can Dance? I find myself crying at the beauty of the dancing and the dancers themselves. What a special power, to be able to fly through the air or express your emotions through movement. I can only dream of being able to move like that. And I'm looking forward to watching Breaking Pointe, the CW dance documentary about the Salt Lake City Ballet.

Fashion/style:

I know the last thing you want to see is a pregnant supermodel, and in a bikini to boot. But you're going to have to take a look at the feature on the adorable Josie Maran on The Glow. She talks about life with her daughter Rumi and expectations for the new little one joining her family. I'm a big fan of Josie's products and like her tip about using her Josie Maran 100% pure Argan Oil as a facial moisturizer, going to try that tonight! I totally realize that sounds like she is pushing her product, but I didn't get that impression at all.

The summer issue of Lonny is here! And that's all I really have to say about that.

Interior design:

Giveaway at Little Green Notebook of the cutest little LA or NYC globe from the awesome store Furbish in Raleigh, NC. Just go to Jenny's blog and tell her which globe you'd like to win.

Check out House of Turquoise today for a giveaway from Stella & Dot, the chic online jewelry store. Just leave a note with your favorite piece to win. I'd go for this Campari necklace.

I'm loving this Vogue piece on Amanda Peet's home, seen over here on Habitually Chic today.

Gardening:

Do you read Ryan at Pacing the Panic Room? He is father of two and married to the beautiful Cole. Together they have the most incredible home and a popular blog about their life together. They recently renovated their back garden space and have the coolest vertical planted garden I've ever seen. Check it out here.

Food:

Head on over to A Sweet Spoonful to congratulate Megan on her upcoming cookbook! In celebration, she has posted a yummy looking recipe for a Spiced Orange and Ginger Cocktail.

Enter to win a copy of The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook by Lindsay Landis on The Baker Chick today as well as get a recipe for Salted Caramel Cookie Dough Truffles (AMAZING!).

That's it, guys! See you here tomorrow.

I hope you are all looking forward to a nice weekend. I'd love to go check out this colorful plexiglass water tower installed by artist Tom Fruin last night on the roof of a warehouse in Brooklyn. It will be there all summer so I have plenty of time.

Food:

Love the thought of this super easy-to-make Minty Tea Cooler via Creature Comforts today.

Participate in Bake or Break's kitchen essentials giveaway by pinning her chocolate espresso cookies and following her on Pinterest. You could win a halfsheet baking pan and a Silipat liner.

Gardening:

Michelle Obama is one of the most inspiring first ladies ever and I'll remember her most for her garden at the White House. I'm looking forward to reading her new book, American Grown, which talks about the garden and inspires us to grow and eat our own food. See some photographs from the book here on Remodelista today.

Fashion/style:

Camila at Effortless Style has this great series called In Her Shoes where fellow women in the design and creative community photograph and describe their typical day. Today she features Sue from the popular Zhush blog and home goods shop. Sue is a mother of three who somehow finds the time to run her busy online shop from home and write her blog! It's a very inspiring post.

That's it guys! Always a small post on Fridays. See you back here on Monday.

Thursday, June 7, 2012

It has been a strange week here in New York, it doesn't feel like June weather, but I'm not really sure what June should feel like anymore. Summer usually has such a definitive line, but these past few years there has been a sort of ambivalence in June and it's not until July and August that we truly feel like summer is here. As I write this, there is the most amazing rainbow arching over the East River. It is the second one we've seen this week. It is so bright that I think it will leave a burning trail in the sky when it fades away. (Wait, does that make it a double rainbow all the way???)

Interior Design:

I love this new series called Copy Cat Design over at Little Green Notebook where Jenny and her assistant Colleen take apart a famous room (today she does Kate and Andy Spade's widely published living room) and tell you how to get the look of the room using what's on sale today. I'm totally taking the tip of using colorful satin pillows on the couch to give it an extra pop and sheen.

I know I've written about Herriott Grace here before but I'm especially excited because Nikole has made a film about her father and you can watch the trailer on her blog today. The full film will be released on June 14th.

Fashion/style:

Get a sneak peek of the upcoming book from Emily at Cupcakes and Cashmere. So excited for this one!! From teaching you how to properly wear lipstick to layering jewelry, Emily seems to know a little bit about everything.

Mrs Lilien hosted an Ultimate Dinner Party extravaganza with Town & Country. Check out the photographs of the glamorous crowd in attendance here.

Two giveaways on Design Mom today. The first is for a $150 gift certificate to Pinhole Press, I used them to make beautiful calendars for my family last Christmas. The second is for another $150 gift certificate to spend at Olive Juice Kids, the adorable kids clothing site.

Food:

Digging these apple cheddar biscuits from Annie's Eats. I love Annie's idea about eating them with a slice of apple on top. Biscuits (or I'd say scones) are a great project to do with a child as they can have fun cutting out the shapes in the dough.

Curator Picks - 6/6

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Food:

Falafel, mmmmm. I've never made falafel before (the long ingredient list puts me off), but if I were about to I would use this recipe from Spoon Fork Bacon.

I have strawberries from the farmer's market today and am thinking of combining them with some rhubarb that is shamefully languishing in my fridge to make this strawberry rhubarb compote I found on The Baker Chick.

Fashion/style:

Matchbook Mag's June issue is out and it includes an article on fashion icon Cynthia Rowley.

Cute giveaway from Cup of Jo for a wooden cutting board in the shape of your US state of choice. What a cool housewarming gift for someone who just moved to your area!

Ok, I just mentioned yesterday that I don't ever do the DIY projects that I pin. But I'm seriously totally definitely doing this one posted on Flax & Twine today. It's the prettiest gold ring necklace. Going out to my craft store now to buy supplies! Found via Creature Comforts blog.

Who isn't obsessed with neon this year? Giveaway on Oh, Joy! for a $200 Shopbop giftcard to get some neon in your life if you haven't already! Pick out something neon from Shopbop and then leave a comment at Oh, Joy! to win. I'd go for this neon yellow long sleeve sweater.

Great sunglass lineup from Paloma at La Dolce Vita.

Gardening:

If I had a fire escape, I'd be growing these DIY tomatoes I found at Remodelista.

Well, I don't know if I saw Venus or not yesterday evening, but I certainly took plenty of photos, including this pretty cool one that Instagram made even more awesome. This was taken at the Central Park reservoir which is one of my favorite places to run on the weekend. It's of those pictures that makes me fall in love with NYC all over again.

Curator Picks - 6/5

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Are you guys watching the solar event this evening? Venus will be visible traveling across the sun at sunset today and it won't be something you can see again until 2117!  I'll be tracking it from here in New York, and hoping to get a picture. If the clouds ever clear up, that is.

Food:

Here's a lovely recipe for rice pudding with strawberries stewed in lemongrass and lime from Bea at La Tartine Gourmande. How yummy does that sound?

How the French raise their children seems to be in the air this year! Bringing up Bebe to this post from Joanna's Motherhood Monday series. Jo is reading the book French Kids Eat Everything and she has summarized here the 7 most important points of sitting down to dinner with children from what helps them to stay at the table to how to get them to at least try everything on their plates. As someone who is trying to emphasize family dinners and raise a child with a varied palate I found it really helpful.

Beautiful post and photographs by Aran at Cannelle et Vanille on her afternoon with the girls at Fig & Fauna and a recipe for beet and goat cheese ravioli. Every time I travel over to her blog (far too often) I just want to steal her life and wear it like a skin...okay that sounds a little weird.

Interior design:

How often do you actually make the crafts you pin onto Pinterest? I know I'm guilty of pining a lot of things I'd love to make but am pretty sure I never will (and I know quite a few others who do this too!). Still, it's nice to dream. Miranda and Jamie at The Pinterest Project blog actually make one project a day from something they've pinned. I wish I had this motivation.

In my long line of to-dos for our apartment I'd like to find a rug for our living room. One that complements the space and doesn't overwhelm. It would seem John and Sherry over at Young House Love have done the work for me with their discovery of this pretty patterned rug from Urban Outfitters. They are using it for their ultra cool and almost finished kitchen/dining room.

This is pretty much a whole post of giveaways!!

Interior design:

The lovely site Bleubird is hosting a giveaway of a beautiful kennedy chair (worth $900!) from Thrive Furniture.

I was walking through the aisles of the Container Store today, daydreaming about an organized home. So I was in love with today's post from I Heart Organizing on redoing the closet. We are guilty of not making good use of our closet space, and I would love to get crazy with shelves and drawers and all sorts of places to hang our stuff. I love her ideas about labeling shoe boxes and clothing racks. Closets that beautiful don't even need doors!

Wish I could win this giveaway for a $500 worth of gift certificates to The Container Store and Target!! Travel over to Jenny at Little Green Notebook to enter the giveaway and while you're there, admire her own beautifully organized tool closet. You just have to provide your best organizing tip, bet I'll learn a lot from reading the comments here.

Cooking:

Giveaway at The Pioneer Woman for one of three large Le Creuset pots in a dreamy caribbean blue. All you have to do is tell her what your perfect age is. I had as much fun reading the answers as I did coming up with my own. Also, I think she has to have broken a landspeed record for most comments on a post. She currently has 32,565 comments - how insane is that??!!

Another cute giveaway at Bake or Break of her essential baking tools: a set of nesting bowls, a Le Creuset silicone spatula, and a cookie scoop. Head over there to enter by Wednesday.

Do you guys read Fictional Food? You should. She's this super clever blogger who cooks from the pages of the books she reads. I posted about her Hunger Games cupcakes a while ago. This time she tackled Hello Kitty and made a themed cake for her daughter's birthday. It's probably one of the coolest cakes I've seen.

Fashion/style:

I know you watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, don't even try to tell me you don't. I was pretty excited to see that Adrienne Maloof was being featured on The Coveteur, mainly because I wanted a glimpse at her incredible shoe collection. And the post does not disappoint.

That's it for today. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and an easy transition back to work.

My morning was derailed by a tough dentist visit so I'm sitting here feeling like one side of my face has slid off a cliff. Please don't make me smile, you'd be frightened by the result (or lack of result). Luckily the farmers market cheered me up with its large bundles of rhubarb and snap peas ready to be picked apart (if I'm ever able to chew again).

Food:

Nikole Herriott over at the beautiful blog Forty-Sixth at Grace is doing a pie series, and first up is a blueberry pie recipe from Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks. I think this will be perfect for my summer baking when my parents blueberry bushes are groaning with the weight of the berries and I have to vie with the birds. This pie even has lemon verbena which gives it a lovely fragrant twist.

Wow, look at these toasted marshmallow squares from Joy the Baker. Made with a vanilla bean crust, cherry jam, and toasted marshmallows, these little beauties would certainly put a smile on my face. This weekend perhaps?

Fashion/style:

The summer edition of Sweet Paul magazine is here and I couldn't be more excited. It includes a feature on Mexican ice pops with awesome flavors like watermelon and chili or mango and mint. You can read online here or you can purchase a copy at news stands or Anthropologie.

Kind of loving everything about this outfit over at the Glamourai today.

Interior design:

Here is another online magazine I recently came across. Adore is a super pretty home magazine based out of Australia. Looks like they have lots of fun pops of color and exciting rooms. Found via i suwannee today.

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend filled with good food, sunshine, and laughter. See you on Monday!
